Sorbus aucuparia 'Cardinal Royal'

Sorbus 'Cardinal Royal'

Sorbus 'Cardinal Royal' is an attractive deciduous rowan producing generous clusters of brilliant red berries. In May, sprays of creamy-white flowers appear among the fresh foliage, attracting bees and other pollinating insects. The fruits colour from late summer, creating a striking seasonal display and providing food for birds.

Its finely divided green leaves have subtly silvery undersides, adding lightness and texture to the canopy. In autumn, the foliage turns warm shades of yellow and orange, complementing the bright berries. Strong, upright branching creates a neat outline, making this rowan an excellent specimen for lawns, mixed borders and wildlife gardens.

Also known as Sorbus aucuparia 'Michred', 'Cardinal Royal' is hardy and requires little routine pruning. Grow in full sun or light shade in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained, acidic to neutral soil. Water regularly during establishment and mulch to help retain moisture around the roots.
