Sarcococca hookeriana var. humilis 'Fragrant Valley'
Sarcococca hookeriana var. humilis 'Fragrant Valley' is a compact, spreading evergreen shrub with glossy, rich green foliage that provides useful year-round structure. During winter, small white flowers appear along the stems, releasing a wonderfully strong fragrance at a time when relatively few other plants are in bloom.
The highly scented flowers are attractive to early bees and are followed by rounded glossy berries, which develop from red before ripening to black. Its low, spreading habit makes 'Fragrant Valley' particularly useful for groundcover and planting beneath taller shrubs and trees.
Tough, reliable and low maintenance, 'Fragrant Valley' performs particularly well in partial or full shade and tolerates a wide range of garden conditions. It is ideal for woodland-style planting, shaded borders and positions near paths or entrances where its winter fragrance can be fully appreciated.
