Sarcococca confusa
Sweet Box is a compact evergreen shrub with glossy, leathery dark green foliage and a naturally neat, rounded habit. Its dense growth provides valuable structure and year-round interest, particularly in shaded areas of the garden.
From December to March, clusters of small creamy-white flowers appear along the stems, releasing a powerful sweet fragrance into the winter garden. The flowers are also attractive to early bees and other pollinating insects when few other plants are in bloom.
After flowering, attractive berries develop, maturing through shades of red and purple to glossy black. Hardy, easy to grow and tolerant of shade, Sarcococca confusa is ideal for woodland gardens, north-facing borders and containers positioned near paths or doorways where its winter fragrance can be enjoyed.
