Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace'
Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' is a striking deciduous shrub renowned for its finely cut, deep purple-black foliage that provides dramatic contrast throughout the growing season. The elegant, fern-like leaves create a sophisticated architectural presence in the garden and make an excellent backdrop for lighter-coloured plants.
In early summer, clusters of delicate pink flowers appear above the dark foliage, creating a stunning display that is highly attractive to bees and other pollinators. These are followed by deep purple-black berries in autumn, which are valued by wildlife and can also be used to make wines, jellies, and preserves.
