Rose 'Sommergold'

Rose 'Sommergold' is a colourful Climbing Rose producing clusters of golden-yellow double flowers from June to October. Its well-formed blooms carry a strong, fresh citrus fragrance with a lemon character, bringing both colour and perfume to vertical garden spaces.

Repeat flowering over a long season, 'Sommergold' combines generous flower production with glossy green foliage and vigorous, healthy growth. The bright yellow blooms stand out particularly well against the darker leaves and can also be enjoyed indoors as cut flowers.

With its strong climbing habit, 'Sommergold' is ideal for training over walls, arches, pergolas and other garden structures. Its long flowering season and reliable performance make it an excellent choice for adding height, structure and cheerful colour to the garden.

Getting the most from your new Rose

Where to plant

Choose an open, sunny position with free-draining soil.  Avoid planting where roses have grown before or transfer fresh soil to the site.  Climbing and Rambling roses can be trained up walls, fences and other supports.

Planting

Roses love organic matter, so mix well-rotten manure, leaf mould or compost into the soil. Water thoroughly before planting.  Make a hole big enough not to disturb the root ball.  Remove from the pot and ensure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil.  Back-fill soil mixed with a good fertilizer, then firm.  Water thoroughly.

Aftercare

Water well until established.  Mulching will keep the soil weed-free and moist.  For best results feed your roses with fertilizer in spring and again in summer.  Remove faded flowers to encourage speedy repeat flowering.

Simple Pruning

Prune your rose in March or before new growth by removing any dead or very thin branches and reducing the height by 1/3 to 2/3 of the previous growth.
