Prunus lusitanica 'Brenelia' is an elegant evergreen shrub with glossy dark green foliage held on distinctive reddish-purple stems. The leaves have a gently waved appearance, giving this compact selection of Portuguese laurel a particularly neat and refined look.
Fragrant creamy-white flower spikes appear in early summer, providing a useful source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects. These are followed by small red fruits that gradually ripen to black, offering additional seasonal interest and a valuable food source for wildlife.
