Parodia turecekiana
Parodia turecekiana is a compact, globular cactus with a glossy green body and distinctive long spines that point downwards around the plant. Its neat, rounded form makes it an attractive choice for sunny windowsills, cactus collections and small indoor displays.
During summer, mature plants can produce surprisingly large, glossy yellow flowers close to the top of the stem. Reaching around 6cm across, the flowers feature a contrasting dark purple stigma and create an impressive display against the green body and spines.

- Useful to know: Generally considered non-toxic, but handle carefully due to sharp spines
- Feature: Large yellow summer flowers with a dark purple stigma
- Eventual size: Can grow to approximately 10cm across
- Origins: North-eastern Argentina, western Uruguay and southern Brazil
Parodia Care
Light: Provide plenty of bright light with some direct sunshine; a sunny windowsill is ideal
Water: Water thoroughly during spring and summer, allowing the compost to dry completely between waterings
Humidity: Prefers dry conditions and does not require additional humidity
Temperature: Enjoys normal indoor temperatures during active growth and prefers cooler, dry conditions in winter
Feeding: Feed occasionally with a specialist cactus fertiliser during spring and summer
Winter care: Keep much drier during winter and avoid leaving the roots in cold, wet compost
