Olea europaea
Olea europaea is a classic Mediterranean evergreen tree, trained into an elegant lollipop form with a clear stem and a rounded head of silvery-grey foliage. Its narrow, olive-green leaves shimmer gently in the light, bringing year-round structure and a relaxed, sun-drenched character to the garden.
Perfect for patios, terraces, entrances and other focal planting positions, this architectural tree looks particularly effective when grown in a large decorative container. In favourable conditions, small creamy-white flowers may appear during summer and can occasionally be followed by olives.
Easy to maintain and drought tolerant once established, the Common Olive thrives in full sun and a warm, sheltered position. Grow it in free-draining soil or compost and protect container-grown plants from severe winter weather and prolonged frost.
