Malus 'Royal Raindrops'
Malus 'Royal Raindrops' is a distinctive deciduous crab apple combining richly coloured blossom with deeply lobed purple foliage. In spring, masses of bright pink-red flowers cover the branches, creating a striking display against the emerging leaves.
The finely cut foliage gives the canopy an attractive texture throughout summer before turning brilliant orange-red in autumn. Small, glossy red crab apples develop after flowering and remain on the branches into early winter, extending the seasonal display. Its upright, spreading habit and well-branched crown make it an attractive specimen tree for lawns, mixed borders and avenue planting.
Selected for good resistance to common crab apple diseases, 'Royal Raindrops' offers dependable garden performance with relatively little pruning. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, allowing space for the crown to develop. Water regularly while establishing, particularly during dry spells.
