Lavandula angustifolia
Lavandula angustifolia is the classic English lavender, cherished for its richly fragrant purple flowers and attractive grey-green foliage. Forming a compact, bushy mound, it provides colour, texture and scent throughout the summer months while bringing a timeless cottage garden charm to borders and pathways.
From mid-summer onwards, dense spikes of purple flowers rise above the aromatic foliage, attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects in abundance. Its neat habit makes it ideal for edging paths, lining borders, planting in containers or creating low informal hedges.
Exceptionally hardy and easy to grow, English lavender thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established it is highly drought tolerant, making it a superb choice for low-maintenance gardens, gravel gardens and Mediterranean-inspired planting schemes.
