Lagerstroemia indica 'Rhapsody in Blue'
Lagerstroemia indica 'Rhapsody in Blue' is a compact deciduous shrub valued for its colourful foliage and long summer flowering season. The leaves emerge in rich purple tones, developing burgundy-red shades before turning vibrant orange-red in autumn.
From July to October, clusters of violet-pink flowers appear, with beautifully ruffled petals that resemble crepe paper. Its compact, bushy habit makes 'Rhapsody in Blue' particularly suitable for smaller gardens, sunny borders and large patio containers.
Best grown in full sun in moist but well-drained soil, 'Rhapsody in Blue' becomes more drought tolerant once established and is hardy to around -15°C. Pruning in late winter encourages strong new growth and an abundance of flowers for the coming season.
