Lagerstroemia indica 'Coconut Sorbet'
Lagerstroemia indica 'Coconut Sorbet' is a compact deciduous shrub or small tree combining striking dark foliage with masses of crisp white flowers. The rich, almost black leaves provide a dramatic backdrop to the crinkled, crepe-like blooms, which are produced in generous clusters through summer.
Flowering from July into September, 'Coconut Sorbet' provides valuable late-season colour before the foliage develops attractive orange-red shades in autumn. As the plant matures, the decorative peeling bark provides additional architectural interest after the leaves have fallen.
Best grown in a warm, sunny and sheltered position with well-drained soil, 'Coconut Sorbet' makes an excellent specimen for borders, courtyards and large patio containers. In colder parts of the UK, a sheltered position and some winter protection are advisable, particularly for younger plants and container-grown specimens.
