Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea', commonly known as Copper Beech, is a stunning deciduous tree with deep purple foliage that retains its colour throughout summer before turning rich copper-bronze in autumn. Its smooth grey bark and strong branching structure give year-round appeal, whether used as a striking specimen tree or a bold, formal hedge.
This colourful form of Common Beech creates an elegant hedge that offers texture and privacy all year. Even in winter, many of the dried copper leaves remain, adding warmth and movement. Hardy, long-lived, and adaptable, it thrives in most well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade. Clip lightly in late summer to maintain a dense, tidy shape. Plant 3–5 plants per metre for a thick, even screen.
