Fagus sylvatica (Hedging)
Fagus sylvatica, known as Common Beech, is a classic native hedging plant valued for its rich seasonal colour and elegant, dense growth. Fresh green leaves emerge in spring, deepen in summer, and turn copper and russet in autumn. The dried leaves remain on the stems through winter, providing excellent privacy and texture year-round.
Perfect for formal or natural hedges, Beech grows steadily and clips well into a dense screen. It thrives in sun or partial shade and in well-drained soil, avoiding waterlogged conditions. A haven for birds and insects, it offers both structure and wildlife value in one. For best results, plant 3–5 plants per metre and trim lightly in late summer to maintain shape.
