Chaenomeles speciosa 'Moerloosei' is a vigorous, spreading deciduous shrub with glossy dark green foliage and a naturally dense, branching habit. Its attractive structure makes it ideal for informal hedging, mixed borders or training against a wall.
In spring, clusters of large white flowers flushed with deep pink appear along the bare branches before the leaves emerge. These are followed in autumn by aromatic, greenish-yellow, apple-shaped fruits that can be cooked and used to make preserves.
Hardy and easy to grow, 'Moerloosei' thrives in full sun or partial shade and adapts to most moderately fertile, well-drained soils. Its flowers provide valuable early-season interest, while the dense growth offers useful shelter for garden wildlife.
