Cercis canadensis 'Carolina Sweetheart'®
Redbud 'Carolina Sweetheart'® is a distinctive small tree prized for its spectacular heart-shaped foliage and attractive multi-stemmed, umbrella-like habit. New leaves emerge in rich shades of red before developing striking variegation in green, cream and pink-red tones.
Its colourful foliage provides interest throughout the growing season, while clusters of pink, pea-like flowers appear on the bare branches in spring before the leaves emerge. The best flowering display is produced when the tree is grown in a sunny position.
With its relatively compact size and naturally architectural shape, 'Carolina Sweetheart'® makes an excellent feature tree for smaller gardens, borders and contemporary planting schemes. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
