    Caladium 'Kelly'

Caladium 'Kelly' is a colourful foliage houseplant with delicate, heart-shaped leaves patterned in fresh green veining over creamy white backgrounds, finished with attractive pink speckling. Its bright, multi-coloured foliage creates a bold, architectural display despite the leaves having a light, papery texture.

Best grown in bright, indirect light, 'Kelly' should be protected from direct sunshine which can scorch or bleach its delicate leaves. Caladiums grow from underground tubers and naturally enter dormancy during autumn and winter, with fresh new growth returning as conditions warm in spring.

    • Other names: Angel Wings, Heart of Jesus
    • Useful to know: Toxic if ingested - keep away from pets and children
    • Feature: Creamy white foliage with green veining and contrasting pink speckles
    • Dormancy: Naturally dies back during autumn and winter before regrowing from its tuber in spring
    • Eventual height: Can grow to approximately 45-60cm
    • Origins: Caladium bicolor originates from tropical Central and South America

    Caladium Care

Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sunlight which can scorch or bleach the delicate foliage

Water: Keep the compost lightly moist during active growth, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity and benefits from warm, humid indoor conditions

Temperature: Keep warm, ideally between 18°C and 27°C, and protect from cold draughts

Feeding: Feed regularly with a balanced houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer

Winter care: Allow the plant to enter dormancy as the foliage naturally dies back; reduce watering and remove old leaves before new growth appears in spring

    Care Tips

    • Light: Indirect light (curtain-filtered sunlight from bright east, west, or south window) or moderate shade indoors.
    • Water: Keep evenly moist and never allow to dry out. Begin watering less in autumn, as plants naturally stop growing.
    • Humidity: Keep humidity as high as practical. Place plant on a pebble tray or a humidity tray. For best results, use a room humidifier.
    • Temperature: The plant thrives in warmth so try to keep at 20°C during the day and 15°C at night. Place the plant in a draft-free area of the house away from air conditioners and doors or windows which open frequently. The leaves will die quickly after exposure to rapid temperature fluctuations caused by drafts.
    • Fertilizer: Fertilize lightly during the growing season with liquid or use slow-release pellets.
    • Propagation: Mature tubers can be divided.
    • Repotting: Repot when plant becomes too large, use well-aerated potting mixture.
    • Special Care: Caladiums go dormant in the autumn and their leaves die back. Move dormant plant to a dark area that is around 15°C. Water once a month while the plant is dormant. When spring comes your plant will come out of dormancy. Place it back in its growing spot.
