Begonia 'Sangria'
Begonia 'Sangria' is a striking rex begonia bred by Dibleys, celebrated for its bold combination of glossy red and silver-grey foliage. The sharply contrasting colours create an eye-catching display, with each leaf appearing almost hand-painted in rich jewel tones.
The medium-sized leaves reach around 16cm in length and are held on a compact, tidy plant, making this variety ideal for windowsills, shelves and indoor displays where space is limited. Its vivid colouring provides year-round interest and brings warmth and drama to any houseplant collection.
- Other names: Rex Begonia
- Useful to know: Toxic if ingested - not safe for pets and children
- Eventual height: Can grow up to 30cm
- Origins: Cultivated rex begonia hybrid bred by Dibleys Nurseries
Begonia Care Sheet
Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and fade the dramatic foliage colours.
Water: Water when the top few centimetres of compost begin to dry. Keep lightly moist but never waterlogged. Reduce watering during winter.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a free-draining houseplant compost mixed with perlite and fine bark. Feed every two to four weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Position near other houseplants or use a humidifier if indoor air is particularly dry. Avoid misting directly onto the leaves.
Pruning and propagation: Remove damaged or ageing leaves as required. Propagate through leaf cuttings or division of mature plants.
Experience level: Moderate
