Begonia 'Black Mountain'
Begonia ‘Black Mountain’ is a dramatic rex begonia with exceptionally dark foliage in rich shades of charcoal-purple, burgundy and near-black. The large spiralled leaves have a velvety texture with subtle metallic silver highlights and deeply pronounced veining, creating a luxurious, almost gothic appearance.
The undersides of the foliage are often flushed deep wine-red, adding extra contrast and depth as the leaves catch the light. Compact and bushy in habit, this striking begonia makes a perfect statement plant for shelves, tabletops or darker-themed indoor plant collections.
Ideal for bright indoor spaces with filtered light, it brings bold texture and rich colour to modern interiors while remaining relatively compact and manageable.

Begonia Care Sheet
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves. Artificial grow lights are suitable for maintaining colour and pattern.
Water: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top layer feels just dry to the touch. Use lukewarm, soft water where possible.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a well-draining mix with added perlite, bark, or coco coir. Feed lightly every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted fertiliser.
Humidity: High humidity (60%+) is essential. Ideal for terrariums or enclosed cabinets. Avoid placing near cold draughts or radiators.
Pruning and propagation: Pinch back stems to encourage bushier growth. Propagate easily from stem or leaf cuttings in moist substrate.
