Begonia 'Black Bat'
Begonia ‘Black Bat’ is a dramatic and highly unusual foliage begonia prized for its deep burgundy to near-black leaves and distinctive bat-wing shape. The large, angular foliage has pronounced lobes that resemble a bat in flight, creating a bold, sculptural appearance that instantly stands out in any indoor plant collection.
As the plant matures it develops a compact, bushy habit with multiple stems carrying richly coloured leaves that can show subtle undertones of green or purple depending on the light. In ideal conditions, delicate pale pink or soft white flowers may appear, providing a beautiful contrast against the dark foliage.
Perfect for bright indoor spaces with filtered light, this rare and collectable begonia adds depth, texture and a dramatic tropical feel to interiors.

Begonia Care Sheet
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves. Artificial grow lights are suitable for maintaining colour and pattern.
Water: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top layer feels just dry to the touch. Use lukewarm, soft water where possible.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a well-draining mix with added perlite, bark, or coco coir. Feed lightly every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted fertiliser.
Humidity: High humidity (60%+) is essential. Ideal for terrariums or enclosed cabinets. Avoid placing near cold draughts or radiators.
Pruning and propagation: Pinch back stems to encourage bushier growth. Propagate easily from stem or leaf cuttings in moist substrate.
