National Children’s Gardening Week returns from 23rd - 31st May 2026, celebrating the joy, creativity and discovery that gardening can bring to children of all ages.
Taking place during the warmer spring weather, the week is designed to inspire curiosity and encourage children to get outdoors, grow plants, sow seeds and enjoy hands-on gardening activities. With quick-growing plants and plenty happening in the garden at this time of year, it’s the perfect opportunity for children to see the results of their efforts and connect with nature in a fun and rewarding way.
Across the UK, families, schools and garden centres will be joining in to help inspire the next generation of gardeners through creative projects, outdoor play and interactive activities.
Partnering with Lee Connelly - The Children’s Gardening Coach
This year’s campaign once again features support from Lee Connelly, one of the UK’s leading advocates for children’s gardening and outdoor education.
Known to many from his appearances on Blue Peter, Lee has inspired hundreds of thousands of children through school tours, live stage shows and educational projects designed to make gardening exciting, accessible and engaging for young people.
His work combines education, entertainment and environmental awareness, helping children and families discover the benefits of growing plants and spending time outdoors.
The Great Garden Centre Mystery
For 2026, Lee introduces The Great Garden Centre Mystery - a brand-new interactive adventure created especially for National Children’s Gardening Week.
Using digital maps and story-led exploration, the initiative transforms garden centres into exciting places of discovery, encouraging children and families to learn, play and engage with gardening in a completely new way.
The interactive experience is designed to spark imagination whilst helping children build confidence and curiosity around plants, wildlife and the natural world.
Supporting Greenfingers Charity
National Children’s Gardening Week also continues its support for Greenfingers Charity, a wonderful national charity dedicated to creating beautiful gardens for children in hospices across the UK.
These specially designed outdoor spaces provide areas for play, relaxation and therapeutic support for children and their families during incredibly difficult times. Through gardens filled with colour, nature and sensory experiences, Greenfingers helps create peaceful spaces where precious memories can be made together.
