Salvia nemorosa 'Ostfriesland'
Salvia nemorosa 'Ostfriesland', also known as 'East Friesland', is a classic hardy perennial producing upright spikes of rich violet-blue flowers above aromatic grey-green foliage. Its neat, vertical habit brings strong colour and structure to sunny planting schemes throughout summer.
The nectar-rich flower spikes are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, making 'Ostfriesland' an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly borders. It is particularly effective when planted in repeated groups or drifts and can also be used for fresh and dried flower arrangements.
Hardy, reliable and easy to grow, 'Ostfriesland' performs best in full sun in well-drained soil. Once established, it is drought tolerant, and removing faded flower spikes can encourage further flowering later in the season.
