Philodendron melanochrysum
Philodendron melanochrysum is a stunning and highly sought-after aroid admired for its large, velvety, heart-shaped leaves in deep green to almost black tones. Each leaf develops a distinctive golden sheen, giving rise to its common name, Black Gold Philodendron, while pale contrasting veins create a dramatic finish against the dark foliage.
Ideal for bright, warm rooms with indirect light, this elegant climber performs best when trained up a moss pole or other support, which helps the foliage develop to its impressive mature size. Its luxurious texture and dramatic colouring make it a striking centrepiece for living rooms, offices and curated plant displays.

Philodendron Care Sheet
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while low light may reduce leaf size and colour intensity.
Water: Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Reduce watering in winter.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing bark and perlite. Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Benefits from being placed near a humidifier or grouped with other plants.
Pruning and propagation: Prune leggy growth to maintain shape. Propagate easily from stem cuttings rooted in water or soil.
