Episcia 'Malayan Gem'
Episcia 'Malayan Gem' - A dazzling foliage plant with velvety, deep bronze-green leaves and bold pink-red undersides. In summer, it produces bright coral-red tubular flowers that contrast beautifully with the foliage.
- Other names: Flame Violet, Episcia cupreata 'Malayan Gem'
- Useful to know: Non-toxic and pet safe
- Eventual height: Low-growing, up to 15cm tall, spreading to 30cm
- Origins: Central and South America (cultivar selection)
Episcia Care Sheet
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much sun can scorch the leaves; too little may reduce flowering. Keep above 18°C.
- Water: Keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid wetting the leaves directly.
- Soil/Nutrition: Use a light, well-draining potting mix (African violet compost works well). Feed fortnightly during spring and summer.
- Humidity: Loves high humidity – ideal for terrariums or steamy rooms. Mist lightly or place on a pebble tray.
- Pruning & Propagation: Pinch back leggy growth to encourage fullness. Propagates easily from stolons or leaf cuttings.
