Corylus avellana 'Red Majestic'

Corylusvellana 'Red Majestic' is a striking deciduous shrub combining dramatically twisted, corkscrew-like branches with richly coloured foliage. Its sculptural stems create excellent architectural interest, particularly in winter when the leaves have fallen and the contorted framework is fully revealed.

Long purple catkins hang from the branches in late winter and early spring, followed by deep plum-purple foliage in early summer. As the leaves mature they become tinged with green before developing brighter purple tones in autumn, giving 'Red Majestic' a long season of changing colour and interest.

Hardy and adaptable, 'Red Majestic' makes an excellent focal point in mixed borders, winter gardens and specimen planting. It performs well in most soil types provided drainage is good, while the distinctive twisted stems are also highly decorative when used in floral arrangements.
