A versatile native tree with pleated green leaves and a strong, structured form. Commonly known as hornbeam, Carpinus betulus is valued for its dense canopy, attractive bark and reliable autumn colour. Its foliage turns golden yellow in autumn and can persist into winter when clipped as a hedge. Suitable as a majestic specimen tree or for formal hedging and pleached screens.
