Brighamia insignis
Brighamia insignis is a rare and unusual houseplant with a distinctive swollen, succulent stem topped by a rosette of glossy, fleshy green leaves. Its unusual tree-like shape gives it strong architectural appeal, while mature plants can produce long, trumpet-shaped yellow flowers with a sweet fragrance.
Commonly known as the Hawaiian Palm, this fascinating plant is native to Hawaii and is particularly well suited to bright indoor spaces, conservatories and greenhouse displays. Its thickened stem stores water, allowing it to tolerate short dry periods, although good drainage and careful watering are essential.

Brighamia Care
Light: Bright, indirect light with some gentle direct sunlight; avoid prolonged intense summer sun
Water: Water thoroughly and allow the compost to dry well between waterings; reduce watering during cooler months
Humidity: Comfortable in normal household humidity and does not require consistently high humidity
Temperature: Keep warm and protect from temperatures below approximately 15°C and from cold draughts
Feeding: Feed lightly with a balanced houseplant or cactus fertiliser during active growth
Compost: Use a very free-draining houseplant or cactus mix and never allow the plant to sit in water
