Acer rubrum 'Autumn Flame'
Acer rubrum 'Autumn Flame' is a compact, tightly branched deciduous tree prized for its spectacular autumn colour. Its fresh green leaves have attractive blue-green undersides before developing vivid shades of orange and scarlet as the season progresses.
Delicate greenish-yellow flowers appear in spring, adding subtle early-season interest before the foliage fully develops. Compared with many other red maples, 'Autumn Flame' forms a more compact, well-branched crown, making it a useful choice where a strong specimen tree is wanted without an overly broad habit.
Fast growing and easy to establish, it performs well in a wide range of well-drained soils and is tolerant of clay. Grow in sun or partial shade, ideally in a sheltered position away from strong winds, where its foliage can develop its best colour.
