Acanthus hungaricus 'White Lips'
Acanthus hungaricus 'White Lips' is a striking perennial prized for its elegant flower spikes and attractive architectural foliage. Soft, dark green leaves form a handsome basal rosette, providing interest from spring onwards and creating an excellent backdrop for neighbouring plants.
In late spring and early summer, tall spiny flower spikes rise above the foliage, carrying numerous blooms with distinctive purple hoods and contrasting white lips. This unusual colour combination is particularly eye-catching and adds a touch of sophistication to sunny borders and cottage garden schemes.
Native to the dry, rocky regions of the Balkans, this robust perennial performs exceptionally well in rich, well-drained soils and develops excellent drought tolerance once established. Its flowers are also highly attractive to bees and butterflies, making it a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
