A new pop-up ‘White Garden’ at Kensington Palace is to pay tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales

A new pop-up ‘White Garden’ at Kensington Palace is to pay tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales. Inspired by memories of the Princess’s life, spring planting will include tulips and scented narcissi emerging through a carpet of forget-me- nots. In summer, containers of English white roses will bloom around a reflective pool, set off by gently swaying ornamental grasses.

White Garden At Kensington Palace

The garden is being planted in the 100-year- old Sunken Garden – a favourite spot for Diana during the 15 years she lived at Kensington Palace – as part of an exhibition, Diana: Her Fashion Story, tracing the style influences on her life.

White gardens add an elegant simplicity to a garden and are easy to create at home. The secret is to give your pure whites a lush green background – so include plenty of foliage plants (mixing in some silvery grey and white-variegated foliage emphasises the pale theme).

Great plant choices include white roses such as ‘Madame Hardy’ or ‘Iceberg’, the beautiful dancing butterfly-like flowers of Gaura lindheimeri, pretty ornamental grasses such as Pennisetum villosum or Miscanthus ‘Morning Light’, and delicate annuals like Cosmos ‘Purity’ and Orlaya grandiflora.
