Keeping your roses happy and healthy through summer doesn’t need to be complicated, but a few simple care tips can make a big difference to flowering, growth and overall plant health.
Container Planting Care
Growing roses in containers is absolutely possible, but bigger is always better. Choose the largest pot your space allows, as this gives the roots more room and helps the compost hold moisture and nutrients for longer. During summer, placing a saucer underneath the pot can also help create a useful water reservoir on hot days.
For container planting, a soil-based compost is best, as it holds moisture and nutrients more effectively than lighter composts. Adding a top dressing, such as fine bark, will also help reduce moisture loss and keep the roots cooler.
Feeding
Roses are at their most productive during the warmer months, so regular feeding is important. A liquid rose feed or granular fertiliser will help support strong new growth and plenty of flowers throughout the season.
The Best Start
When planting, we also recommend using mycorrhizal fungi. This supports healthy root development and can help improve the plant’s ability to take up water and nutrients.
