Skimmia japonica Gold Series® 'Lipstick®'
Skimmia japonica 'Lipstick'® is a compact, evergreen shrub with glossy, dark green foliage and outstanding seasonal interest. This female variety is named for its clusters of deep pink flower buds which appear through winter, creating vibrant colour at a time when gardens are often quiet. In late spring, the buds open into fragrant white flowers that are highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
If pollinated by a male Skimmia, such as Skimmia japonica 'Rubella', the flowers are followed by masses of shiny red berries in autumn, which last well into winter and provide an additional source of seasonal colour. Easy to grow, low maintenance, and tolerant of shade, ‘Lipstick’® is perfect for borders, containers, and shaded garden areas where it brings long-lasting appeal.
