Primula vulgaris
Primula vulgaris, commonly known as the English primrose, is a charming early-flowering perennial producing cheerful, open-faced blooms in soft yellow tones during late winter and early spring. The flowers sit just above neat rosettes of fresh green foliage, bringing welcome colour and brightness when the garden is just beginning to wake.
Perfect for woodland-style planting, shaded borders, containers, or naturalising beneath trees and shrubs, this hardy and easy-to-grow perennial thrives in moist, well-drained soil. Its compact habit and reliable flowering make it an excellent choice for adding early-season interest to the garden.
