Nyssa sylvatica

Nyssa sylvatica is a handsome deciduous tree prized for its outstanding autumn colour. Its oval, glossy green leaves are dark green above and blue-green beneath, creating an attractive canopy throughout spring and summer.

As autumn arrives, the foliage develops spectacular shades of scarlet, orange and yellow, making this an excellent specimen tree for seasonal impact. It has a naturally upright to columnar habit when young and gradually develops a broader crown as it matures.

Best grown in moist, humus-rich, fertile soil, Nyssa sylvatica performs particularly well in acidic conditions and will tolerate partial shade. A position sheltered from cold, drying winds will help it establish well and develop its best autumn colour.
