Ludisia discolor
Ludisia discolor is a beautiful and unique terrestrial orchid prized for its velvety, dark green leaves traced with fine, copper-red veins. Grown more for its striking foliage than its flowers, this “jewel orchid” brings a touch of luxury and subtle shimmer to shaded indoor spaces.
In late winter or early spring, it produces delicate white flowers on upright stems that rise gracefully above the leaves. Thriving in warm, humid environments with soft, filtered light, Ludisia discolor is an elegant, low-maintenance choice for terrariums, bathrooms, or plant groupings in indirect light.

Ludisia Care Sheet
Light: Prefers low to medium, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade or scorch the velvety leaves.
Water: Keep soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the top few centimetres to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a loose, well-draining orchid or aroid mix with bark and perlite. Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted fertiliser.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Mist lightly, group with other plants, or place near a humidifier for best results.
Pruning and propagation: Remove spent flower stems after blooming. Propagate easily from stem cuttings planted in moist soil or sphagnum moss.
Experience level: Beginner to moderate.
