Ilex aquifolium 'Ingramii' (m)
Ilex aquifolium 'Ingramii' is a dense, bushy, evergreen shrub with striking foliage and strong architectural presence. New shoots emerge a deep purple, maturing to glossy, dark green leaves that are sharply spined and beautifully flecked and margined creamy-white. When young, the foliage is flushed with pinkish-mauve tones, giving this holly extra seasonal interest and colour.
In late spring, small clusters of white flowers appear, attractive to pollinators. As a male holly, it does not produce berries but is an excellent pollinator for female holly cultivars. With its year-round variegated foliage, tough growth habit, and tolerance of a wide range of soils and conditions, including coastal gardens, ‘Ingramii’ makes an excellent specimen shrub, screen, or part of a mixed hedge.
