Erica arborea var. alpina f. aureifolia 'African Gold'

Erica arborea var. alpina f. aureifolia 'African Gold' is a hardy evergreen shrub with soft, golden-green foliage and masses of small white bell-shaped flowers appearing from April to May. Commonly known as Winter Heath or Alpine Heath, this variety originates from the European Alps and is well adapted to cold, exposed conditions, thriving even at high altitudes.

Its golden foliage provides year-round colour, glowing brightest in full sun. ‘African Gold’ is tolerant of lime and grows well in any fertile, well-drained soil, making it more adaptable than many heathers. Perfect for sunny borders, slopes, or gravel gardens, it attracts bees and other pollinators early in the season. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it’s a tough, reliable shrub for year-round interest and early spring blooms.

    • Attractive to bees and early pollinators
    • Tolerant of lime and poor soils
