A room of your own
Every garden needs a bolthole: a place to sit and look at the view, a store for tools, or an office for working in peace. You can buy buildings in every style, from summerhouses to sheds: but first, follow our tips for installing your perfect garden room.
A room with style: buildings are useful, but they're also beautiful and make a real feature in your garden. Make your building the focus of a rustic path, or frame it with plants or an archway.
A room with a view: You'll spend most of your time inside looking out, so give yourself a nice view. Add sculpture, a bench or a striking plant as a focal point.
A room in the right place: Weigh up the right spot for your building carefully. A bright spot is lovely for a summerhouse, but an office would quickly overheat so is better with some shade.
Practical considerations: All buildings need 60cm maintenance access around them and a level base. Concrete pads are ideal for larger buildings, but smaller structures can sit on treated timber bearers.
