Sempervivum ‘Chick Charms’ - A Modern Revival
Sempervivum are enjoying a well-deserved resurgence, with striking new varieties bringing this classic garden plant firmly back into the spotlight.
Tough, adaptable and effortlessly low maintenance, Sempervivum thrive where many other plants struggle. Their name comes from the Latin Semper meaning ‘always’ and vivus meaning ‘living’ - a fitting description for plants known for their resilience and longevity.
Commonly known as Houseleek, Sempervivum have a rich history rooted in folklore. In Wales, they were traditionally planted on rooftops, believed to protect homes and bring good fortune. Another well-loved name, Hens & Chicks, refers to the mother rosette (the ‘hen’) and the smaller offsets it produces (the ‘chicks’).
The ‘Chick Charms’ collection takes this heritage and gives it a vibrant, modern twist. With an exceptional range of colours, textures and forms, these eye-catching varieties add instant interest to any space.
Equally at home in pots, containers, rockeries or alpine beds, they are incredibly versatile. Plant in full sun with free-draining soil, and they will reward you with year-round structure and colour while requiring very little water.
‘Chick Charms’ are in stock now in limited numbers - don’t miss them.
